What butterflies can you expect to see in nearby fields and gardens?
There are approximately 20,000 species of butterflies in the world. About 725 species have occurred in North America north of Mexico, with about 575 of these occurring regularly in the lower 48 states of the United States. In most parts of the United States, you can find roughly 100 species of butterflies near your home.
Tonight, we'll learn about the varieties of butterflies you're most likely to see here, and what you can plant to make them happy. For butterflies, a complete habitat includes both nectar sources for the adults and larval host plants for the next generation.
