Joanie has added this second session - The walk and talk will be the same as last week.
We'll meet at the Alan Rich Park and take a stroll with Joanie MacPhee, who will walk us through a brief introduction to native plant identification and what to look for to tell if a plant can be eaten. We'll see what's growing locally and whether it is in an edible stage. We'll learn a little about plant types, leaf arrangement, leaf types, and flowers. Come prepared to walk and stand and thumb through field guides. Bring your curiosity and your questions!
No experience necessary - All ages welcome.
Joanie MacPhee has been studying wild native (and not-so-native) plants for over 50 years. She has worked extensively with herbalists, botanists, and ethnobotanists, and is a member of the Athol Bird and Nature Club and a Master Gardener and Natural Resources Steward with the University of New Hampshire Extension Services. MacPhee has an interest in the modern and traditional uses of plants, and is happy to share her knowledge.
